Labrador Rescue operates across Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia but our head office is just outside the Australian Capital Territory in Yass. Our HQ in Yass offers a safe and “farm life” home for labradors in crisis. It also means that, together with our foster carers in Canberra, we generally have plenty of dogs for adoption in the ACT. We also work with other dog rescue organisations when they’re swamped, so occasionally you’ll find other breeds, including Maremmas, Golden Retrievers and even the occasional cat. Ready to love a labrador?
Here are the rescue dogs in Canberra and across the state who are currently ready for adoption or soon will be. Many of our beautiful labradors don’t even make it to the website, as we have families waiting, who are “a perfect match”. You can join the waiting list by completing our application to adopt. These dogs are currently looking for their perfect match. Could it be you?
microchip no: 900164004080996 Meet Buddy – the sweetest little Labrador who’s ready for his forever home Buddy is a gentle, loving 2.5 year old boy who adores the company of other dogs. At around 24kg, he’s a small, handsome Labrador with a big heart and a soft nature. We’ve had the joy of fostering him…

Our team of volunteers – also known as our Lab Assistants – care for around 60 Labradors in crisis every year. Each Lab Assistant provides as much help as they can manage. We’re currently looking for more volunteers to help keep Labrador Rescue the gold standard in dog rescue organisations in ACT.
Get in touch with our team of volunteer Labrador retriever rescuers! We’ll endeavour to get back to you within five days. We thank you for your patience. Labrador Rescue is 100% volunteer-run, and we use every penny of your donations to aid Labradors in crisis.

Wondering why you never see Labrador Retrievers for adoption from Canberra pounds and shelters? It’s because we’re pros. We’re an established and trusted Labrador rehoming organisation. We work with pounds, shelters and city councils to ensure that Labradors are rescued from shelters and placed with the ideal home.
Our extensive network of foster carers extends across the Australian Capital Territory, but we always need new foster carers in regional locations. Could you be that person? We need dog rescues performed from the Scabby Range to Gungahlin! Our ACT office also works with some NSW locations, and needs foster carers and help for rescue dogs in Wagga Wagga, Blue Mountains and Goulbourn too. Can you help?
Rehoming your dog is a tough decision. Know that by rehoming your Labrador through Labrador Rescue, you’re helping to minimise the stress on your dog and placing them in good hands. We’ll love your baby just like you do. We’ll ensure they spend the next chapter of their life in a perfect home. Our services include surrendering your dog to Lab Rescue for care or helping you to share your private adoption ad with an audience of labrador lovers. We also offer a Bequest service where we’ll commit to collecting and caring for your beloved lab after you’re gone.
We work with partner vet clinics across the ACT. These vets see so many beautiful labs that they have become experts in the breed. Some of our labs come to us in perfect health, some require basic surgery, some face prolonged veterinarian care and rehabilitation. Our partner vets know everything there is to know about caring for labradors. We thoroughly recommend their clinic for your good boy or girl.
