Bobby’s Story
We adopted Bobby nearly 4 months ago. She was a very timid girl recovering from her life threatening pyometra with a subsequent heart condition diagnosed. With love and the care of Carmel at Lab Rescue, she was given the opportunity to start the healing process. Our introduction to her 7 days after her operation was a bit rocky as she was so scared that she didn’t even want to accept our treats and shied away from our pats! But we knew that all she needed was time and love and so we welcomed her to our tribe knowing we could offer her the perfect home to meet her special needs. With her new 2 big lab sisters to help guide the way, off we set to her new life.
We have since found out that she hates floorboards and refused to walk, so we have carpet runners all over the house! She loves tennis balls and so they are everywhere for her as her security blanket. She is deaf, but with trust she now looks for us and responds to hand signals.
She loves nothing better than cuddles on the bed with us and her 2 big lab sisters. She gets along with the cats and has discovered the joys of 3 meals a day.
Her very first outing to the park, she was shy and scared and couldn’t leave soon enough. Not wanting to interact and hiding away. Fast forward to now and she will trot up to strangers and ask for pats and will explore happily knowing we are close by. She still shows periods of anxiety but they are less frequent.
She experienced her first cafe breakfast this morning and she cruised through easily! She’s also experienced a beach getaway and while she doesn’t fit the lab stereotype of loving water, again she coped well. It has been so rewarding and heartwarming to see her transformation.
I think we can safely say Bobby has found her forever home and we are so grateful to have welcomed her into our hearts and can allow her to live the life she so deserves.
