Daisy’s Story
A phone call from Labrador Rescue one Thursday evening has changed our lives. Some months ago we had lost our 15 year old Labrador who been the centre of our universe and a treasured member of the family. We had registered with Labrador Rescue as being interested in adopting a four legged person. The phone call let us know that there was a little girl who just might fill the gap in our lives.
She had been poorly treated and was under-nourished, but over a five week period with the loving administrations of her foster-carer she had responded well and was ready to find a family of her own. Daisy enchanted us. She was timid, but inquisitive, friendly, but wary…so were we…it was important to establish mutual respect and a calm, loving environment…the very qualities that her foster-carer had provided.
During the trial period when we were all on probation we just knew Daisy was meant to be our girl. She met our friends graciously, bounced into the car with obvious delight, explored the neighbourhood with great enthusiasm on her morning walks, attended a dinner party and became the star turn of the evening. “Please may we keep her,” we asked. “Keep her, of course you can!” was the reply. Daisy is the light of our lives. She is loving, funny, mischievous, attentive, and has a wonderful sense of humour. She keeps an eye on us, checks up on us, helps in the garden, and supervises in the kitchen, shares our lives, and has commandeered a very big place in our hearts. Thank you Labrador Rescue, you and your dedicated team of volunteers make miracles happen.
