Harry’s Story
Having returned from 9 years in Asia with a young family (4 year old and a 6 year old), we were looking for a dog to complete our little family. Originally we were looking at getting a puppy, however I decided that I would prefer an older companion who would run with me and we loved the idea of giving a dog a second chance.
Along stumbled Harry. He was found near Newcastle and was apparently quite emaciated and had clearly not been treated well. His foster carer gave him the gift of a second chance and nurtured him with the best kind of love until he came to us. Harry is a blessing for our family. He will not leave my side, he runs up to 10km with me every day and will do anything he can for a cuddle. My kids adore him and are very protective of him. Poor Harry is still getting used to other people and won’t go anywhere near someone who is carrying a stick (even elderly people with walking sticks and particularly men with golf clubs). It sickens me to think what happened to him in his former home for Harry to be so frightened. We are combating these fears and at every opportunity give him a reassuring cuddle.
We have decided that Harry is a Lab x Whippet. We have coined him our Whippador! He is incredibly fast on the bush running trails near our home and makes the best training partner for me – no excuses for me slacking off on my training runs!
Harry – thank you for completing our family. Thank you for your unequivocal love and companionship. You are a little beauty mate and we love you.
