Koby’s had a tumultuous life, caring for people and facing hardship. At the “people age” of 100 years, Koby has finally retired into a comfortable life.
Koby’s person was forced to flee her home, taking her beloved senior boy Koby with her. For months, she and Koby lived out of their car, through Queensland’s sweltering summer heat and sudden storms. Koby was her rock. He provided her with love and support throughout. Before meeting her, Koby had trained as an assistance dog and understood his duty to care for her during her former relationship and during this terrible time of homelessness. At 100 years old in human years, Koby needed some comfort. He struggled on his old joints to get in and out of her car. They lived in a carpark, just up the road from one of Labrador Rescue’s foster carers. The foster carer began taking Koby while the lady attended appointments and during a hospital stay. Koby got to know the foster home. When the lady had the chance to find more secure housing, she tried everything in her power to take Koby with her. But, it couldn’t be. It broke her heart to surrender him to the local foster carer but it was necessary for her health and her safety.
When he arrived in his new foster home, Koby slept. Koby slept for more than a week in his new, comfy bed. He saw a vet and received joint medication and treatment for his skin and ear conditions. He moved to a healthier diet and promptly lost 6kgs. He found a peaceful, quiet daily routine and a new found love of meaty bones and chicken snacks.
Koby is a very senior chap, and a pleasure to have around, so, instead of rehoming him, he’ll live out his golden years with his foster family as lovely old foster fail.
