Leonard’s Story
Leonard arrived at the end of February and has settled into life here pretty quickly. He had been entire until taken on by Labrador Rescue, so he did spend the first few days marking everything in sight which wasn’t fun. But by the end of the first week, we were pretty much through that. He had been chained in a back yard and virtually abandoned, so he was pretty thin and lacking muscle and a little shut down, but regular meals, contact and exercise have seen a complete transformation.
He gets on well with our resident Scottie which is great, and he is happy to romp with other visiting dogs as well. He’s a playful and energetic fellow who really enjoys a good run, and we are fortunate to live on a property with a fair amount of open space. But he’s also happy lying as close as possible to me the rest of the time. He fretted a bit initially when I had to leave him, even for short periods, but he’s more confident that I’ll return now and is prepared to wait quietly with the Scottie. Not that I’m ever gone all that long anyway. And the welcome home I get is quite rewarding, I must admit.
I want to thank Labrador Rescue for their careful selection of the right dog for us. Leonard has slotted in here really well and is loved by all – despite the fact he dribbles a bit. But even that is tailing off slowly as his mouth recovers from some previous damage which had worn away some front teeth rather badly.
And yes, he does get to sleep at the bottom of the bed!
