Can You Help More Dogs Like Matthew?

Matthew’s Story

I decided to adopt  a Labrador late last year for my six year old Spoodle Oscar. His brother Barney died in September. He was only eight and had multiple  health issues. With Barney’s passing Oscar became increasingly anxious and was terrified of other dogs. I thought maybe a bigger dog would be a solution. I had adopted a kitten last year, who had been a Christmas Dump named Humphrey.

I thought we would be difficult to match. I knew I wanted an older dog, as Oscar would never tolerate a puppy. I saw Matthew’s picture and thought he would be good for us. Yet I had to go to London for family issues in October. I told Lab rescue if we were suitable and if no one wanted him, I would be keen to meet him. I watched his profile and smiley face from London and received a call in November. I was excited but teary on the day he was driven from Canberra hoping I had made the right decision.

I met Matthew and his super foster family in the park at the back of my Unit. Oscar ran to the car as Matthew was getting out, I could have cried watching that moment. Barney had only been dead three months and Oscar looked so happy.

So now I have this amazing 12 year old boy. He is super fit, super well and full of beans. He has some some surgery having had two rotten teeth and a big lipoma removed. My Vets are amazed how well and how energetic he is. Matthew loves trying to climb the washing machine to eat Humphrey’s food and I have watched him climb out the window of the car. He likes a swim in the creek, he went to the beach Christmas Day and is a very happy boy. I think  our lives changed for the better. I call him Matty Matt Matt Matt but at the vet they call him Matthew Barney. Fortunately, he loves having his pic taken. Thank you, Nicola Oscar, (Barney – spirit), Humphrey and Matty Matt Matt Matt.
