Meet Buddy – the sweetest little Labrador who’s ready for his forever home

Buddy is a gentle, loving 2.5 year old boy who adores the company of other dogs. At around 24kg, he’s a small, handsome Labrador with a big heart and a soft nature. We’ve had the joy of fostering him for the past six months while he completed successful heartworm treatment, and watching his progress has been incredibly rewarding.

Buddy’s early life was tough. He had very little human socialisation and was abandoned for months in a remote area before a kind-hearted person rescued him. Because of this, Buddy can be wary at first—but once he checks you out, he blossoms into an affectionate, loyal companion. He’s also an excellent guard dog and will alert you to anything unusual, while still being gentle and playful with the people he knows.

His confidence grows quickly when other dogs are around, and he reads canine cues beautifully. He’s happy mixing with dogs of all sizes and even shows lovely manners with those dogs which prefer their personal space.

During his heartworm recovery, Buddy had strict rest periods, so we were limited in our ability to expose him to the outside world. Now those restrictions are gone, he’s discovering life at his own pace—and thriving. He is learning to walk nicely on lead in familiar areas, but will still startle at sudden sounds or strangers. For now, he only runs off-lead in fenced areas, as safety and confidence-building are still important. Buddy loves toys—he proudly carries them around to greet you—and he has learnt good house manners, though the occasional shoe may still be a bit too tempting. He’s crate trained but would much rather snooze on the sofa overnight.
