Labrador Rescue assists dogs in crisis across Australia. Our Queensland office, based on the Gold Coast, matches rescue dogs with prospective families across Queensland. While you’ll find most of our rescue dogs in Brisbane, our team of volunteers drive across Queensland to collect dogs from pounds and surrendering families.

Queensland Lab(rador) Assistants Needed
Our team of volunteers – also known as our Lab Assistants – care for around 60 Labradors in crisis every year. Each Lab Assistant provides as much help as they can manage. We’re currently looking for more volunteers to help keep Labrador Rescue the gold standard in dog rescue organisations in Queensland.
- Assistant to State Co-ordinator – provide telephone and online administrative support to owners and adopters.
- Foster Carers – provide a temporary home to a rescue dog in crisis. Take them to vet appointments, provide food, shelter and plenty of cuddles. Assist in finding them the perfect forever home.
- Transporters – Collect a rescue dog from a rehoming family, regional pound or shelter and drive them to the nearest capital city (or if you’re feeling especially adventurous, transport the rescue dog to Brisbane).
- Fundraisers and Promotions – Host a workplace morning tea, host an in-store fundraiser at your local pet shop, provide social media promotion, or set up a bequest to Labrador Rescue.
- Sponsors – Provide much-needed products and services to Labrador Rescue – from quality food to discounted veterinarian services, our sponsors help us prepare our beautiful rescue dogs for adoption.

Dog Rescue Brisbane
Wondering why you never see Labrador Retrievers for adoption from Brisbane pounds and shelters? As Queensland’s most established and trusted Labrador rehoming organisation, we work with pounds, shelters and city councils to ensure that Labradors are rescued from shelters and placed with the ideal home. Our Brisbane and Gold Coast Lab Assistants even travel across Queensland to collect dogs from pounds and shelters to find them new families.
Dog Rescue Across Queensland
Our extensive network of foster carers extends west and north from Brisbane, but we always need new foster carers in regional locations. Could you be that person? We need dog rescues performed in Toowoomba, Bundaberg, Gladstone, Rockhampton, Mackay, Bowen, Townsville, Cairns, Mt Isa, Longreach and Emerald. Could you become a foster carer or volunteer dog transporter in regional Queensland?
Rehome Your Dog in Brisbane and Across QLD
Rehoming your dog is a tough decision. Know that by rehoming your Labrador through Labrador Rescue, you’re helping to minimise the stress on your dog and placing them in good hands. We’ll love your baby just like you do. We’ll ensure they spend the next chapter of their life in a perfect home. We offer two services for rehoming dogs. You can surrender your dog to Labrador Rescue and we’ll help them adjust to the transition, take care of their health and find them the perfect new home. We also offer a promotional service for private rehomings. If you plan to rehome your dog directly with the new owner, we can help you find them, by promoting your rehoming request on the website. In addition to these services, we offer a Bequest Service. If you worry about what will become of your beloved lab when you’re no longer around to care for them, we can guarantee to collect them, help them through their grief and then find them the perfect new home for the next stage.
Find the Best Labrador Vets Near You
Our Queensland team work with many generous and expert vets to provide care to our labrador. Because they see so many of our beautiful labs, they’ve seen it all! They are up to date on labrador health complications, new innovations in treating illness and injury that labs are prone to and generally excellent at caring for labrador retrievers. We thoroughly recommend them, and encourage you to see for yourself.
