Russ’s Story

At first Russ was unsure, he was afraid of the car and had to be coaxed into the back seat with a biscuit and he was not great on or off the leash. He would take off on his own and  he pulled like a bull when he was on his leash. With a bit of tuition from PUPi (dog training), he has improved immensely.  He just loves being around people and laps up as many pats he can get especially from kids. He never fails to get a pat or a complement when he is out and is often stopped on the street by someone wanting to pat him. Now at home, hearing someone pick up car keys or say the words ‘walk’ or ‘beach’ is his cue for great excitement and to bolt to the car or front door. The car has a whole new meaning to him now.

His absolute most favourite place has to be the beach or the local dog park –  where he can run amok and every dog there, big or small, is his new friend. No longer does he run off – he is happy to tag along close by and run around as dogs do. He still can be bit nervous around larger dogs when on his lead, particurlay if they show any aggression  but that can be handled by giving them a wide berth. Once he gets to know them though, he is usually pretty good and he has lots of doggy mates  – and even a rabbit.  He makes a pretty good guard dog at home, no-one comes to the front door without Russ letting us know about their arrival. Another friend has just arrived!!

The kids like to dress him up on occasions. He loves all the attention and seems happy enough to dress up and play the part. He looks a pretty sophisticated dog dressed in his bow-tie, a lion, the security dog, or sailor dog. And he doesn’t mind a bit of mud to romp in either. He is a real goof-ball dog, he is so affectionate and has given our whole family a lot of love and fun.
