Shady’s Story
Back in 2013, we adopted Jake (thanks to Destiny who had cared for him). I was heartbroken when we lost him in November last year due to kidney failure and deterioration in his back legs.
I didn’t want another dog but, my youngest son was fretting.
So, I submitted another application, not really wanting to be successful. That was until I was contacted by Carmel.
Sandy was an elderly girl who had been in foster care for a while. It seemed that she would suit my family so, would we be interested in meeting her? Something made me say “Yes” without hesitating.
The following weekend we made the very scenic drive (thanks to a stupid GPS) to meet Sandy. My son had said to everyone beforehand, that we were going to pick up our new dog on the weekend. No option to refuse her, Sandy was to be coming home with us.
Love at first sight was definitely the case. Her photos had reminded me of a petite version of our Jake (he had been a huge boy) and when I spotted her walking along the verandah, I knew she was definitely coming home.
Sandy became Shady and settled in straight away. Despite my best intentions, she is my girl. I can’t go anywhere in the house or yard without her. Carmel did warn me about smelly gas clouds emitted from Shady but, nothing could have prepared me for the actuality. Shady can clear a room and I have considered hiring her out as a chemical weapon! Our cats love her and so do we.
Thank you to Labrador Rescue (particularly Carmel and Kevin) for entrusting Shady to us. She is the most beautiful soul and our home is again complete.
