Some of you in Vic will have seen the posts about the old girl found in a ditch near Wallan/Kilmore area nearly two weeks ago on 8th Oct 2016. This is her story.
Some of you in Vic will have seen the posts about the old girl found in a ditch near Wallan/Kilmore area nearly two weeks ago on 8th Oct 2016.
At the time of being found it appeared she had been out in the cold for at least a couple of days.
Upon being found she was taken to the 24 hr vet clinic in Wallan.
Of course social media went nuts and thankfully one of our wonderful foster carers in Vic saw the posts and contacted our Vic State Coordinator.
As the dog was not microchipped the vets provided first aid until they could locate the owner and discuss treatment. No Microchip means unable to locate owner and therefore the Mitchell Shire was contacted.
On Saturday evening, Sunday morning and many other times during Sunday our Vic State Coordinator spoke with the vets to discuss the condition of this girl.
On Sunday morning and afternoon our Vic State Coordinator also spoke at length with a Shire representative to organise this girl coming into the care of Labrador Rescue.
When presented to the vet this was her condition:
By Sunday morning she had brightened a tad, but there was still grave concern about her condition.
Happily by Monday morning she had rallied and was standing and walking and the concern with her legs had shifted to the area of critical arthritis with muscle wastage.
We also know now that she is deaf as she does not respond until you walk up and make contact.
It appears she has had previous ear issues and was diagnosed with a current ear infection.
As she had rallied, the vets commenced the process of determining what the skin issue was and a plan to treat the issue. Then determining the extent of either arthritis/hip dysplasia/muscle wastage to see how extensive the damage was and sort a plan to assist her pain and mobility. They also begin an extensive flea elimination to stop the atrocious itching.
On Tuesday morning this girl was released into the care of one of our wonderful foster carers to begin her journey to wellness.
This girl has been called Violet and is now happily spending her days in a warm home with other dogs for company and the loving support of a wonderful human family.
Labrador Rescue would sincerely like to thank the 24 Hr Wallan Vet Clinic for their care and support of Violet and also for their informative updates and information provided to Labrador Rescue.
We would also like to thank the wonderful member of the public who found Violet and had the foresight to take her to the vet. Thank you. Your quick actions most definitely saved her life.
The vet treatment to date for Violet has been extensive and expensive and will be ongoing for quite some time. On the day Violet was released to Labrador Rescue the vet account was just shy of $3000. As there will be ongoing vet costs we are estimating our total to come to $4,500.
