On June 2nd sent out a plea for Dargo .... here is his story ...
Meet Dargo, an 8year old Labrador surrendered to us “in good health” by an elderly couple who were moving into a retirement home. Our foster carer, Judith, went to pick Dargo up from his home, armed with the usual questions to get a gauge on the dogs’ health and behavior. As soon as Judith saw Dargo she instantly noticed his agitation, pacing and panting. She also questioned a very sore looking growth on his right eye to which the owners responded “we just haven’t had the time to get it attended to…” she went on to ask… Does he sleep inside? No, never.
Does he have a toy or blanket to bring with him? No.
What is his diet like? We usually feed him leftovers … and you can imagine how the rest of the conversation went.
Dargo was picked up and went straight to the vet. He was thoroughly checked over and it was confirmed Dargo had arthritis and hip dysplasia, no wonder the poor boy was agitated, he was in pain! We also scanned his microchip and found he was closer to 12 years old not 8 as the previous owner had said! The vet also examined his eye. The growth was not just on the surface, it was spread right throughout his eyelid and so an appointment was made with the eye specialist.
At the specialist appointment we discovered Dargo had the beginning of cataracts and that the tumor was causing bleeding behind the eye… Eyelid tumors can destroy the structure of the eyelid, not to mention the very annoying rubbing on the eye. It is usually best to remove them when they are still small, and Dargos’ isn’t exactly small… They also checked his blood pressure and found it was through the roof!
At home Dargo was always hobbling and panting in pain, his only relief was when he was sleeping. He is now on medication for his pain and blood pressure and has absolutely blossomed over the past couple of weeks! He very excitedly jumps in the car when it’s time to go to the dog park and can very comfortably run and play with all his fur friends. His pain and blood pressure are being very closely monitored, and it came time to remove the tumor from his eye, and this is where Dargo needed your help.
Dargo needed to have the tumor surgically removed from his eye and the surrounding area frozen with liquid nitrogen (cryosurgery) to kill any remaining tumor cells. This treatment expected to cost upwards of $2000. The vet has said the prognosis for Dargo’s eye condition was good and so we sent out a plea to our followers asking for donations towards Dargos’ surgery via this link below.

Within 3 hours of posting Dargo’s story we reached and surpassed our goal of $2000! Wow!

Thanks to all the generous donations Dargos’ surgery has now been and gone! The surgery went really well, better than we could have hoped for. He recovered from the anaesthetic quickly and has only needed to wear the cone of shame for a couple of days as he healed so well. The specialist has done a great job, thank you.
You will never believe this… Dargo already had a meet and greet over the weekend and he has gone on trial! His new furever family have been equipped with all his meds and are very happy to administer them. We have had updates already saying he has settled in just perfectly along with some happy snaps.
Dargo has a new lease on life and we are so happy for him and his new family. We wish them all the best.
