It’s a tough decision but if it’s in the best interest of the dog, it’s the right choice. Labrador Rescue rehomes hundreds of Labrador Retrievers every year. Most are surrendered with great sadness due to family circumstances. No judgement. We’re here to help.
Is your dog suitable for Labrador Rescue rehoming?
We get it, Labs can be a handful and they’re big dogs. Perhaps your new landlord doesn’t love big dogs. Perhaps, you can’t give your Labrador retriever the time and attention they deserve. You’ve tried everything; dog walkers, training, behaviouralists – even returning the dog to the breeder. You know that surrendering a dog for adoption is stressful, not just for the dog, but for your family. Whatever the reason, nobody gives up their beloved pet unless it’s absolutely necessary. We understand that dog rehoming is your last option and we’re here to help. We’ll place your dog with one of our volunteer foster carers who will find the perfect new life for them.
Please note, we are unable to help if you are surrendering your Labrador retriever for rehoming if they’re displaying vicious behaviour. We do not offer a rehoming service to aggressive dogs. We recommend you speak to your vet about options.
Unsure? Contact our volunteers to find out if your Labrador retriever is suitable for rehoming.

Private rehoming through Labrador Rescue
Labrador Rescue’s private rehoming service allows you to find a suitable family to adopt your Labrador while the dog is still in your care. You will select the new home yourself, with our assistance. This service is designed to reduce the stress on your dog, allowing them to stay in the environment they’re most familiar with (as opposed to going to a foster home first).
While our rehoming advertising service is free, we are a registered charity and request a donation to aid in our ongoing services.
How the process works
For your dog to be considered for our private rehoming service, you will need to provide:
- Desexing certificate
- Vaccination records
- Detailed information about the dog’s personality and history
- Microchip number
If your Lab is suitable for private rehoming, the process is as follows.
1. Labrador Rescue will list your dog for adoption on our website.
2. We receive and assess all adoption applications for your dog.
3. We forward approved and interested applications to you.
4. You review applicants and choose the one you believe will be the best fit for your dog.
5. Contact the successful applicant. If they want to proceed with the adoption, you’ll arrange everything directly with your dog’s new owner. You’ll need to ensure all paperwork is completed and submitted. This includes microchip transfer and ownership papers.
Please note, by proceeding to follow through on an enquiry listed on this page, you are agreeing to the conditions listed in this disclaimer. Labrador Rescue accepts no responsibility for this process. We provide an advertising service only.
