Meet Sam, a beautiful 10-year-old boy who is looking for someone to make his golden years truly special.

For the first 10 years of his life, Sam had something very precious — his dad and best friend. Sadly, his beloved owner passed away, and Sam suddenly found himself facing a huge change in his world.

Sam came from a bayside home, and he absolutely loves the water. He is a gentle, affectionate boy who would love nothing more than to spend his retirement years close to his person, enjoying the simple things in life.

Coming into foster care with four other dogs and a cat has been a big adjustment for Sam. After having his person all to himself for so many years, he really longs to be an only child again. He isn’t a fan of small dogs or cats, although he gets along well with the resident Labradors.

Sam is a lovely walking companion. He can initially pull a little on the lead, but once he’s settled, he much prefers a leisurely stroll, stopping frequently to sniff and take in the world around him.

When Sam arrived in care, he weighed 50kg, and his dedicated foster carer has been working hard to help him lose weight so he can feel more comfortable and enjoy his retirement. He’s making progress, and continuing this gentle weight-management journey will be an important part of his future.

And then there’s Sam’s love of the car! Pull the door open and he’s ready to go. He absolutely loves a ride and would happily accompany his person on adventures.

At home, Sam is happiest keeping things simple. His favourite place in the evening is curled up beside you on the couch, enjoying a quiet cuddle and simply being part of the family.

He’s a very good boy who will patiently sit and wait for his dinner, is happy to go into a crate when he wants some quiet time, is house trained, and confidently uses a doggy door.

Sam does have epilepsy, but thankfully his seizures are well managed with a low dose of phenobarbital. He will need a family who is committed to continuing his medication and keeping an eye on his ongoing wellbeing.

Sam’s dream home would be a quiet, loving retirement home where he can be the only dog, or potentially share his life with another calm, elderly dog for company.

Most importantly, Sam wants his person. Someone he can follow around the house, keep company, go for gentle walks and car rides with, and then curl up beside at the end of the day.

After losing the person who had been his whole world, Sam deserves the chance to feel that special bond again.

This beautiful old boy isn’t asking for much — just love, companionship, comfort and a place to call home.

Sam is  desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm and intestinal worm treated or the right family for a re-homing fee of $300.
